Pulmonary Rehabilitation

minusText Sizeplus

Pulmonary Rehabilitation combines therapy, exercise and life-style management to help reduce the severity of your symptoms and improve your quality of life. It will not reverse the damage to your lungs already caused by COPD. However, it will help you improve your ability to carry out daily tasks, such as dressing, grocery shopping and walking, within the limits of the disease. It can improve your overall level of fitness.

Therapy may include nebulizer (aerosol) treatments with medications to open up your airways and/or Incentive Spirometry Exercise to increase your lung volume.

Exercise is an important aspect of the pulmonary rehab program. An exercise program, tailored to suit your needs, can increase your stamina, as well as improve your overall well-being.

Life-style management includes learning to recognize and avoid environmental conditions that may make your condition worse, as well as helpful nutritional information. You'll also learn useful relaxation and breathing techniques.
